Three Days Grace, formerly known as Groundswell, is a Canadian rock band that formed in Norwood, Ontario, Canada in 1992. The band reformed in 1997 under its present identity, with guitarist and lead singer Adam Gontier, drummer and backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst, after a split in late 1995. Barry Stock was hired as the band’s main guitarist in 2003. Toronto is the band’s home base.
Three Days Grace has released four studio albums since signing with Jive Records, each three years apart: Three Days Grace in 2003, One-X in 2006, Life Starts Now in 2009, and Transit of Venus in 2012, with a fifth album scheduled for release in 2015. In the United States, the first three albums were certified platinum, platinum, and gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), while in Canada, they were certified platinum, double platinum, and platinum by Music Canada. On the Billboard Alternative Singles and Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, the band had a run of number one songs. Three Days Grace stated in January 2013 that lead vocalist Adam Gontier will be leaving the band due to a “non-life threatening” health problem. Shortly after, Adam Gontier was replaced by Matt Walst, the brother of bassist Brad Walst, who was later recognised as an official member in 2014.
